Now that we are past October I feel like I can fin

Now that we are past October I feel like I can finally breathe and revisit some of the learning I did last year after reading Shifting the Balance!

I started slowly introducing reciprocal teaching with my students over the past few weeks. Right now I have been teaching each part and modeling with our read aloud.

Students have then been practicing during our read aloud and our book clubs. So far all students are practicing the same skill at once!

My hope is that by our next book club round we will be ready for each student to have their own skill so they can share their thinking and have productive discussions around their books and texts more independently! 📚

A few tips for having a successful family book order:

▪️Have students circle books in the flyers to gather excitement for ordering!

▪️Individually recommend books to students and parents that you know would be good fit books for those students

▪️ Send home a letter with a QR code to make it easy for parents to order ✔️

▪️Show the class ALL the books that come in the book box to get them excited about ordering AND about reading new books! 🙌🏼

It’s that time of the year to revisit expectations..anyone else? 🙃

I shared this in stories & many of you wanted these resources or more information! So save this post for when you feel like it’s time to revisit the rules & expectations in the classroom this year 🫶🏻

▪️ Revisited our Class Promise we made at the beginning of the year
▪️ Went over the logical consequences posters (just took a screenshot & input into my slides)
▪️Put students into groups & went over different scenarios. Students discussed the rule that was broken in each scenario & what a logical consequence may be in our classroom.

There are 10 different scenarios that come from @responsiveclass ! We went through 5 of them but will continue to do a few each day until we get through them all.

*sound on for all the baby squeals* My mornings before school this year are a whole lot earlier & busier but they are also filled with a lot more joy 🥹 I’ll take these giggles + squeals in the morning over a podcast any day 🧡

I have gotten a lot of questions about pumping/feeding for the school year. So this is what a typical schedule at the moment is this:

▪️ Nurse in morning when she wakes up
▪️ Pump at prep 8:45 (sometimes I skip this one)
▪️ Pump at lunch 11:00
▪️ Nurse after daycare pickup around 4
▪️ Sometimes feed again before bed 6:30/7
▪️ I pump & Jared does a dream feed with @kendamil.usa formula around 9:30

Pumping at school is a lot and it really feels like there is NO break in the day to just relax 😌 So if you are a pumping/nursing teacher mom, just know you are amazing because it is not easy! 🧡
